How a Violet Ray Works
A violet ray works by generating high-frequency, high-voltage current which passes through a glass electrode to create stimulation at the skin surface.
Electrical Path
1 Mains power feeds kicker coil
2 The kicker coil and capacitor create oscillations through the interrupter
3 The oscillations are fed into a compact Tesla coil in the handle
4 High frequency, high voltage electricity is delivered to a glass electrode
High Voltage, Low Current
Voltage can reach tens of kilovolts, but current remains extremely small. The energy primarily forms a surface discharge rather than deep conduction.
Plasma in the Electrode
The electrode contains low‑pressure gas. The oscillating electric field ionises the gas, producing visible plasma glow. Colour depends on gas type: – Neon: orange – Argon: violet
Corona and Ozone
The discharge ionises air around the electrode creating a corona. Oxygen molecules split and recombine as ozone, producing the characteristic smell.
Notable Characteristics
– Not DC shock therapy
– Not X‑ray equipment
– Not a radio transmitter
– Electrically, a small resonant Tesla coil
